Manhattan School of Music (MSM)’s critically praised Opera Theater presents STRAUSS’S Der Zigeunerbaron (The Gypsy Baron), performed in German, conducted by Kynan Johns and directed by Linda Brovsky. Premiered in 1885, the comic opera has significant Hungarian influences in the score. It is a tale of desire, love, social status, gypsies — and hidden treasure. The performances will take place on April 27, 28, and 29 at 7:30 PM and April 30 at 2:30 PM in MSM’s Neidorff-Karpati Hall. A preview will also take place on April 27 at 6 PM in Greenfield Hall.
MSM offers opera performances that are “often the most intriguing of any New York conservatory,” according to New York Times opera critic Zachary Woolfe. This production is made possible by the Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation and the Joseph F. McCrindle Endowment for Opera Productions at Manhattan School of Music. Tickets are $30 adults and $15 seniors/students. More information about purchasing tickets can be found online at msmnyc.edu/tickets.
