Writers at Barnard: Catherine Barnett, Mary Gordon, and Saskia Hamilton

Catherine Barnett has received a James Laughlin Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Whiting Writers’ Award, and a Pushcart. The author of The Game of Boxes (Graywolf, 2012) and Into Perfect Spheres Such Holes Are Pierced (Alice James Books, 2004), she teaches in the graduate and undergraduate programs at NYU. She is a visiting professor in the Hunter College MFA program, works as an independent editor, and has degrees from Princeton University, where she has taught in the Lewis Center for the Arts, and from the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.

Mary Gordon is the author of seven bestselling novels. She has also published two collections of stories, a book of essays, two memoirs, a biography of Joan of Arc and Reading Jesus, a writer’s encounter with the Gospels. Her latest books are The Love of My Youth (2011), a novel, and​ The Liar’s Wife (2014), a collection of novellas. Professor Gordon has received a Lila Acheson Wallace Reader’s Digest Writer’s Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2007.

Saskia Hamilton joined the Barnard faculty in 2002. She is the author of four books of poetry, including the recent Corridor (2014). She is also the editor of The Letters of Robert Lowell (2005) and The Dolphin Letters: Robert Lowell, Elizabeth Hardwick, and Their Circle (2018); and co-editor of Words in Air: The Complete Correspondence between Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell (2008). She directs Women Poets at Barnard.
