Welcoming Cammie Jones, Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Dear Members of the Barnard Community,

I am very pleased to announce that Cammie Jones will be joining Barnard College as our new Executive Director of Community Engagement and Inclusion, effective February 1, 2021. In this position Cammie will work to develop an ecosystem of engagement and inclusion through close collaborations with the Center for Engaged Pedagogy, The Athena Center for Leadership, faculty, Community Impact, local organizations and city government. I want to extend a special thanks to all those who participated in the hiring process. Cammie comes to us with more than 13 years of experience working within higher education, where she specialized in developing and strengthening pathways towards social justice and civic engagement. We are delighted that she is taking on this newly created position at the College that falls within our Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Cammie is a first-generation college student and holds a B.S. in kinesiology from the University of Texas at Austin and a M.A. in higher education administration from Louisiana State University and A&M College. She comes to us from Bard College, where she served as the Associate Dean of Experiential Learning and Civic Engagement. In this role, Cammie was tasked with overseeing various experiential learning and leadership development initiatives, including the management of the Engaged Liberal Arts and Sciences courses and several international civic engagement offices. Cammie has coordinated several global and domestic summits on civic engagement, youth-action leadership development, and the future of women’s rights.

In addition to her professional work, she has spoken on national and international panels and workshops focused on the importance of civic engagement, women’s rights, and equity and inclusion. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her work in higher education and community engagement, including the 2021 ATHENA Award through the Chamber Foundation Inc., in recognition of courageous acts and fierce advocacy in the pursuit of excellence, and an award from the Women’s Leadership Alliance of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce for her work around leadership development and empowerment efforts for women in the community. She also serves as a Board of Trustee member for THRIVE ON! and is a Professional Affiliation Member of Campus Compact.

Please join me in enthusiastically welcoming Cammie to Barnard.

Sincerely,

Ariana González Stokas
