When #Barnard alumna Diana Rastegayeva ‘11 saw how challenging it was to sign up for a COVID vaccine appointment, she decided to take action. In late February, she founded MA Covid Vax Help, an organization that supports eligible Massachusetts residents in booking COVID vaccine appointments. Read more from Rastegayeva below.

“I started MA Covid Vax Help after witnessing first-hand how difficult it was to sign up for a COVID vaccine appointment. Successful registration in Massachusetts requires navigating many websites, spending meaningful time at the computer, keeping an eye on the ever-changing landscape of vaccine news and availability, and more. What began as an individual effort to help eligible family and friends in Florida and Massachusetts has quickly become a 500+ person volunteer organization. In just over 3 weeks, we’ve successfully booked COVID vaccine appointments for more than 7,500 eligible individuals.

“We focus on increasing access for those who are most disadvantaged by the current system, including older individuals (75+), BIPOC individuals, those living in areas particularly hard-hit by COVID, and non-English speakers. It’s been amazing to see the impact that we make with each appointment we book and to be able to bring some hope and meaning to what has otherwise been a very difficult year.”
