
2022 Columbia Global Freedom of Expression Prizes
Columbia Global Freedom of Expression is proud to recognize the judicial decisions and legal representation around the world that strengthen freedom of expression by promoting international legal norms. The prizes are awarded in two categories: Significant Legal Ruling and Excellence in Legal Services.
The 2022 Significant Legal Ruling Prize will be awarded to the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for its ruling in Amnesty International & Ors v. The Togolese Republic. The 2022 Excellence in Legal Services Prize will go to the Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP) and the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) for their legal assistance and advocacy on behalf of Jineth Bedoya Lima in the case of Bedoya Lima v. Colombia.

Established in 2014 by President Lee C. Bollinger, Columbia Global Freedom of Expression brings together judges, lawyers, journalists, scholars, and activists to advance understanding of international norms that protect freedom of expression and the free flow of information in an interconnected global community with major common challenges to address. To achieve its mission, Global Freedom of Expression undertakes and commissions research and policy projects, organizes events and conferences, and participates in and contributes to global debates on the protection of freedom of expression and information in the 21st century.
