A Season of Prayer and Fasting
The Riverside Church congregation will be joining together in a season of prayer and fasting. We will begin this season at sunrise on Friday, November 19, just days before the adjourned annual meeting. We will gather on Zoom at sunrise and start the day in prayer and a brief introduction to fasting, followed by a day of prayer and fasting from sunrise to sunset.
Our focus for prayer and fasting will be the Adjourned Annual Meeting on Sunday, November 21; may our spirits be renewed and may we be drawn closer together, the risen Christ in our midst, to serve God and our community.
The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God, both individually and as a community. In the Bible fasting focuses on eliminating distractions to focus on God and the work of God. It hits the reset button of our soul, renews us from the inside out, and enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God. Let us fast and pray in the spirit of 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
