Abstract: This study examines the economic challenges faced by older workers following job displacement, with a focus on disparities related to race and gender. Using data from the Current Population Survey Displaced Workers’ Survey, the analysis highlights how older workers experience longer unemployment durations, lower reemployment probabilities, and greater wage losses compared to younger workers. These disparate outcomes further weaken the bargaining power of displaced older workers in the labor market and heighten their retirement insecurity.
