Biblical Hebrew Advanced Seminar: The Book of Ruth

Nine Wednesdays: October 19, 26; November 2, 9, 16, 30; December 7, 14, 21
1:00–2:30 p.m. ET

An Online Course with Dr. David Zev Moster

Are you interested in reading a book of the Tanakh from start to finish in the original Biblical Hebrew? In nine live online sessions, we will read through the Book of Ruth using a variety of pedagogical resources. In addition to discussing literary themes, we will focus on difficult passages and explore multiple options for translation and interpretation. We will also learn to identify and translate some of the most advanced forms of Hebrew verbs. Participants are encouraged to complete an assignment before each class.

Recordings will be available for those unable to attend a session.

Prerequisite: Completion of JTS’s Biblical Hebrew Workshop course or a thorough grasp of biblical Hebrew nouns, prefixes, suffixes, and verbal stems.

If you’re not sure if this course is right for you or if you have other questions, please contact Lynn Feinman at lyfeinman@jtsa.edu.

Cost: $315

This course will utilize Accordance Bible Software, among other resources. Participants will receive a coupon to purchase the software at a discounted rate of $50.

Dr. David Zev Moster is an adjunct assistant professor of Bible at JTS and the director of the Institute of Biblical Culture, where he teaches Hebrew and creates YouTube videos for the general public. He is the author of Etrog: How a Chinese Fruit Became a Jewish Symbol (2018). He received his PhD from Bar-Ilan University, an MA from New York University, and a BA, MA, MS, and rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University.
