Columbia University’s Division of Ethics invites you to the next session in our Bioethics in Film: From Screen to Seminar 2022-2023 Series. This series uses popular films, documentaries, and television as tools for exploring critical issues under the broad umbrella of bioethics.

In this event our expert panel will be discussing the award-winning documentary Aftershock (2022), followed by a Q&A session. This session will take place, via Zoom, during Black Maternal Health Week, on April 12, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. ET. Aftershock details the long-lasting effects of the Black maternal health crisis in the United States. Through the eyes of surviving families, the film presents the legacies of expectant mothers, Shamony Gibson and Amber Rose Issac, who tragically died due to lack of adequate medical care. An optional virtual screening will be held one day before on April 11, 12-1:30pm ET.
