Breaking Bias Book Talk: Somatic Education with PRISM Tools

How are homophobia, racism, ableism, and other -isms learned? What are the tools to actually unlearn them in ourselves?

Join Anu Gupta and Rev. Adriene Thorne on Thursday, September 26 from 7:00PM – 8:15PM for a somatically informed experience and conversation around imagining a world without bias—and the ways we can dream it into reality. Through meditation, somatic exercises, and a lively discussion, followed by an interactive Q&A session, Anu and Rev. Thorne will explore what it means for us to “break bias” in our own communities. This is ever more important in our highly polarized world and upcoming Presidential elections.

Anu is the author of Breaking Bias: Where Stereotypes and Prejudices Come From and the Science Backed Method to Unravel Them, with a Foreword from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and you can purchase a copy of this important book at this link: www.anuguptany.com

ABOUT ANU GUPTA

Anu Gupta is a meditation teacher, bias expert, lawyer, scientist, and the founder and CEO of BE MORE with Anu, an e-learning company that trains professionals across corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors to advance inclusion and wellness by breaking bias.

His work has reached 300+ organizations, training more than 80,000 professionals and impacting over 30 million lives. As a gay immigrant of color, he came to the work of breaking bias after almost ending his life due to lifelong experiences with racism, homophobia, and Islamophobia. The realization that bias can be unlearned helped lead him out of that dark point and inspired a lifelong mission to build a global movement for social healing based on principles of mindfulness and compassion. A peer-reviewed author, he has written and spoken extensively, including on the TED stage, the Oprah Conversation, Fast Company, Newsweek, and Vogue Business.

Anu is a student of Buddhism and Kriya Yoga and a trained meditation and yoga teacher. He has spent over 10,000 hours on retreat at IMS, Spirit Rock, and Dharma communities in the US and Asia. He is a graduate of IMS/BCBS’s Exploring the Heart of Freedom and Spirit Rock’s Mindful Meditation and Yoga Teacher Training (MYMT) programs.
