Death of Classical: Vis Aeternitatis
Vis Aeternitatis (“The Power of Eternity”) – and the question of what happens when this life is over – has fueled the thoughts of every prophet, poet, and philosopher to pick up a pen. This program is an aural explorations of the great beyond, with a thousand-year spread of composers ranging from 11th-century nun and mystic Hildegard von Bingen, to Baroque firebrands Barbara Strozzi, Heinrich Biber, and Henry Purcell, through to the present day voices of Caroline Shaw and Gelsey Bell.
Program:
Heinrich Biber: Passacaglia
Caroline Shaw: Cant voi l’aube
Henry Purcell: Dido’s Lament – When I Am Laid In Earth
Barbara Strozzi: Che si puo fare
Hildegard Von Bingen: O Vis Aeternitatis
Gelsey Bell: Nothing Lasts Forever
