ZipCare Urgent Care Brings Free Healthy Cooking Classes To Harlem

Healthcare facility aims to promote positive health outcomes for the Harlem community

Harlem, New York – ZipCare Urgent Care Group of Harlem,  has launched their monthly health series “Elevate Your Eating” aimed at enhancing the health and wellness of local community members. This free series will reimagine healthy eating with cooking demos and nutrition education to promote health awareness.

“Good nutrition is key to an individual’s health and well-being and one of the best preventive care strategies,” said Michael Budden, Chief PA of ZipCare Urgent Care Group in Harlem. “This program is another way that we are able to go above and beyond to provide outstanding patient care and help address health disparities associated with nutrition”.

The series will take place on the last Sunday of every month at 12PM at ZipCare Urgent Care Group of Harlem’s facility located at 2602 Frederick Douglas Avenue and will run throughout the full calendar year. Cooking demos will be led by Chef Maryam, a patient, whose urgent care visit served as inspiration for the creation of the program. The sessions will feature meals inspired by the cultural flavors representative of the diverse community including Caribbean, Latin America and more. Implementation of this program highlights ZipCare’s commitment to be a supportive resource in building a healthier community.

“I’m proud to be a part of this effort to help empower healthier meal choices for the community”, said Chef Maryam “My hope is that individuals will discover they can raise their level of nutrition and realize healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring.”

Attendees will learn healthy recipes that focus on increasing the consumption of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy. The series will also explore various strategies and solutions that foster a healthy lifestyle. The goal is to promote nutrition literacy to help lower the health risk for minorities who are historically susceptible to suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension.
