MBDance Presents These Are the Bodies That Have Not Borne (Work-in-Progress Showing)
In this work-in-progress performance-ritual, Maria Bauman and her MBDance collaborators center the journeys of various Black and Brown folks: transmen, gender non-conforming people, non-binary folks, transwomen and cisgender women who are contending with feelings around not yet bearing a child through our own bodies–whether we expect to do that in the future or not. For some people this is a celebration and an expression of autonomy while for others These are the bodies that have not borne. is a mourning, a contending, a reclaiming, or more.
Through guided workshops with guest practitioners, sessions exploring carefully crafted improvisational scores, and sessions grounded in choreography, the project is both a community-building, consciousness-raising circle and performance practice leading up to an outdoor public ritual and printed ‘zine’
Featured performers: Josiah Jay, Ke’Ron Jamaul, Rochelle Wilbun & Tsunami Maiolatesi.
