Morningside Heights Community Symposium
In the face of ongoing gentrification, continued institutional expansion, and growing corporate influence, community members in Morningside Heights, Manhattan will gather for an open and wide-ranging discussion on local history, current realities, and plans for the future of the neighborhood.
“It’s high time to have a candid discussion on how this neighborhood is being influenced and developed,” said local advocate Dan McSweeney of the Morningside Heights Community Coalition (MHCC). “We’re thankful to Union Theological Seminary for hosting this good-faith conversation among diverse community members. Our culminating point will be the drafting of a shared vision statement on how Morningside Heights should evolve in the years to come.”
Neighborhood residents, community organizations, public safety personnel, government officials, institutional administrators, local businesses, students, visitors, media representatives, and other stakeholders in Morningside Heights are enthusiastically invited to attend and express their views.
Lunch will be provided and the event will end with the presentation of creative works developed throughout the day, the unveiling of a shared community vision statement, and a social hour. Registration is required here.
