Title: “Empowering Fusion – Establishing Regulatory Frameworks to Enable the Prompt Deployment of Fusion Technologies”
The Honorable Jeffrey S. Merrifield, who was appointed by Presidents Bill Clinton and G.W. Bush to be a Commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (1998-2007), will discuss ongoing domestic and international efforts to establish an appropriate regulatory framework to enable the prompt deployment of fusion technologies. Currently the co-lead of Pillsbury Law Firm’s fusion team and serving as the outside regulatory counsel of the Fusion Industry Association, Mr. Merrifield will discuss the process of how he assisted FIA in engaging with the NRC to set the path for an effective method to regulate this emerging technology – an effort that resulted in Merrifield and his team being award the Financial Times 2023 Award for “Most Innovative Law Firm in the Energy Transition.”
