State of the World Conference: Implementing the Pact for the Future
At the Summit of the Future in September 2024, the global community will adopt several landmark agreements. The Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact, and the Declaration on Future Generations cover a broad, ambitious set of issues, including a new agenda for peace, improved global governance, reform of the international financial architecture, safe digital access, and AI governance and youth leading for the future. However, it is not always clear how the ambitious commitments can be implemented. The inaugural State of the World Conference at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs provides a platform for meaningful discussions on how the lofty aspirations of global governance expressed in these outcome documents can be translated into concrete action. The conference brings together world-leading academics, UN leaders, key Member States, and youth leaders to offer specific and actionable inputs and expert advice on the key steps to implement the outcomes.
