Storytelling & Somatics: Watercolor and Dance Workshop with Leah Yassky (Urban Stages)

Explore your artistic potential with Creative Aging, a series of art workshops for adults 50 and older.

Please join us at Harry Belafonte 115th Street Library for a watercolor and dance workshop with teaching artist Leah Yassky of Urban Stages.

Have you ever taken a dance class and left with an impulse to create? Or taken a walk and found the next line of a poem? Movement can clear cluttered thoughts and help us follow our core creative impulses. This class series by choreographer Leah Yassky asks students to use movement prompts as an influence for visual storytelling. Each class begins with a guided somatic exploration focusing on growing internal physical perception. When translated into symbols and stories, this practice of tuning in can strengthen the body-mind connection. In this investigation of a merging drawing & moving practice, we layer somatic and mark-making exercises.

No experience is necessary. Students can expect gentle movement exercises and guided drawing and watercolor meditations.

All materials will be provided.

Attendance at all sessions is recommended. Space is limited and registration is required.

Register above with your email address. Walkups will be permitted if space accommodates.

This series will consist of 6 sessions, 90 minutes each.
