Street Activation: Learning from Streetscapes for Wellness

How can we reshape streetscapes to improve quality of place in our city?
Streets make up over a quarter of New York City’s land area, serving as public corridors that define how we navigate and experience the city. Given their significance in our city’s landscape, it’s no wonder that the design of streetscapes has a tangible and measurable impact on the well-being of New Yorkers. How can the city improve streetscape design to enhance our physical, mental, community, and environmental health? Designing New York: Streetscapes for Wellness, recently published by a coalition of city agencies and arts & design organizations, examines local and global projects that aim to reimagine streets and promote public health.
Join OHNY, in partnership with the New York City Public Design Commission (PDC), for our inaugural Public Policy Talk focusing on Designing New York: Streetscapes for WellnessSreoshy Banerjea, PDC’s Executive Director, Commissioner Sue Donoghue of NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, and Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez of NYC Department of Transportation will convene to discuss how this remarkable publication can guide their decision-making and priority setting for new projects at their respective agencies.
