The Magic Flute, Mozart and the Prince Hall Masons

Harlem Opera Theater will bring opera and the history of the Freemasonry to the stage with the presentation of “The Magic Flute”, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (January 27, 1756 – December 5, 1791), a composer of the classical period who wrote over 800 works. Mozart was a free Mason for the last seven years of his life.

This tribute will also highlight the historic life and work of African American mason, Prince Hall (c. September 14, 1735/8 – December 7, 1807). Prince Hall founded a Freemasonry and lobbied for education rights for African American children. Several of our patrons will identify with the chapter of the Prince Hall Masons based in Harlem. Join this historic tribute and hear the outstanding voices of the artists of Harlem Opera Theater.

Artists: (Left to right): Gregory Hopkins, Artistic Director, on piano; Carolyn Sabron, host; Dimery Mowery, soprano; Jeryl Cunningham Fleming, soprano; Erica Liburd, soprano; Edward Washington II, tenor; Markel Reed, baritone; Charles Carter, bass.   .

Free concert ~ open to the public.  Registration required.
