The Sound & the Story: Affect, Orientation, and Relationality in Audio Data

Kyle Oliver is an Episcopal priest and educational media producer and researcher.
The use of audio data in both the analysis and reporting stages of ethnographic research offers distinct epistemological and ethical benefits to researchers, participants, and audience. Drawing on scenes from Becoming Tapestry, the dissertation podcast chronicling his participatory ethnographic investigation of a West Coast foster youth mentoring ministry, he will argue for the value of recording and sharing sound in multimodal scholarship.
