Universal Health Coverage by Leveraging Private Sector in India

“Pursuit of universal health coverage by leveraging private sector: The case of India’s tax-financed health insurance schemes” — a hybrid seminar by Hamied Faculty Fellow Soumitra Ghosh, PhD, Associate Professor and Chair, Centre for Health Policy, Planning and Management, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. This seminar is presented in the Health Policy and Management Department’s Seminar Series.

Having initiated tax-financed health insurance programs for the poor 15 years ago, India holds important policy lessons for LMIC countries that want to build insurance-based health systems for achieving UHC. This talk will be an analysis of the issues currently facing the health systems owing to the above reform.
