Happy Pride Month! Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing words from the American Poets Corner which speak to the spirit of Pride and the Cathedral’s mission towards equality for all. Today, on Juneteenth, we are sharing words from the Poets Corner’s most recent inductee: Audre Lorde.
Audre Lorde’s identity as a Black and lesbian woman infused her writing with tenacity as she fought against oppression of all forms. One of the biggest themes in Lorde’s writing is Power — finding it, losing it, having it taken away. She used the written word to inspire power in herself and her readers. Today, on Juneteenth, we remember Lorde’s words, and her commitment to empowering all oppressed people.
