On Friday, January 22, Mount Sinai Morningside bid farewell to a nursing icon.
Dr. Maria Vezina, our Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for the past 7 years, was recently appointed Vice President and Chief of Nursing Practice, Education, Advanced Practice Nursing Credentialing, and Nursing Labor Relations Partnerships for the Mount Sinai Health System!
Dr. Vezina has been with Mount Sinai Morningside since 2014 and throughout her tenure has brought much success, inspiration, and joy to the Nursing Department. To wish her congratulations, folks across many different departments at MSM came together to host a surprise “Farewell Zoom” to send her off to her new role. Thinking it was just another meeting with her fellow Nursing Administrators, Dr. Vezina was pleasantly surprised to see many faces of people from Nursing to Medicine, Human Resources to Operations pop up on her screen with messages of good luck, warm wishes, and sentiments of gratitude. Through many tears and cheers, we said goodbye to her by reminiscing on fond memories and enjoying some music. Maxine Legall, Director of Patient Experience and Cultural Transformation, delivered an emotional performance of Lady Gaga’s “Shallow,” which was followed by a viewing of Tina Turner’s, “The Best.”
Throughout her three decades of service in the Mount Sinai Health System, Dr. Vezina has made outstanding contributions to the Mount Sinai community—we are excited to see her continued success in this new leadership role. Dr. Vezina, we will miss you so much at Mount Sinai Morningside, but we could not happier for you. Tina certainly put our thoughts in words—you are simply the best!
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Vezina on her new role! 🎉♥️
