Tomorrow, February 20 at 10:30a, the Episcopal Diocese of New York will celebrate the Blessed Absalom Jones in an online service. While we’re sad not to host the service in the Cathedral, as we’ve done for the past several years, we’re so glad the commemoration will continue virtually this year. Absalom Jones, the first African-American ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church, survived the heinous evil of chattel slavery and discrimination from both the secular and religious worlds. His legacy and teachings remind us to challenge our preconceived notions and to be bold in the pursuit of justice.
