Ubi caritas – Maurice Duruflé

The Cathedral Choir performs Maurice Duruflé’s sublime motet “Ubi caritas.” Duruflé was one of music’s most ardent perfectionists – he wrote only fourteen pieces, and he seemed never to be satisfied with them; he revised them obsessively, until every note fit perfectly in its place. All this effort was well rewarded, however – this piece in particular is a great favorite of the Cathedral Choir. The text is from the liturgy for Maundy Thursday: “Where true charity and love dwell, God is there.”
