Posing Modernity | Columbia’s Wallach Art Gallery

Posing Modernity: The Black Model from Manet and Matisse to Today—the latest exhibition at Columbia’s Wallach Art Gallery on its Manhattanville Campus—re-examines the history of modern art. In this incredible array of works, Denise Murrell (GSAS’04, M.Phil’10, Ph.D.’14), who is the Wallach Gallery’s Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Research Scholar, and curator of the exhibition, proposes that the changing representation of the black female figure has been central to the development of modernism.

It will run from October 24, 2018 until February 10, 2019.
