ARTEK brings the New York audience yet another magnificent tour de force: Claudio Monteverdi’s landmark 1619 publication, Book 7 Madrigals, complete. Monteverdi’s publication marks his first book to contain a new style of madrigals, ranging from madrigals with concerted instruments, to intimate solos, duets and trios, to the large scale dramatic work, Tirsi e Clori. Join us for both evenings to hear the full range of Monteverdi’s genius! ARTEK has been recording this repertoire since spring 2017 and will finish the recording just prior to these concerts.
The ensemble features our singers Laurie Heimes, soprano; Clara Rottsolk, soprano; Barbara Hollinshead, mezzo-soprano; Ryland Angel, countertenor/tenor; Andrew Fuchs, tenor; Philip Anderson, tenor; Peter Becker, bass-baritone and ARTEK’s string ensemble led by world-renowned Italian violinist Enrico Gatti with Vita Wallace, violin; Theresa Salomon, viola; John Moran, bass violin; Rosamund Morley, viola da gamba; Lisa Terry, viola da gamba; Motomi Igarashi, violone, and ARTEK’s renowned continuo team, Daniel Swenberg, theorbo and guitar; Grant Herreid, lute and theorbo; Adam Cockerham, theorbo; Christa Patton, harp; Dongsok Shin, harpsichord; and Gwendolyn Toth, harpsichord and director.
