Between the Lines: The Third Daughter

January 12, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

PART OF BETWEEN THE LINES: AUTHOR CONVERSATIONS FROM THE LIBRARY OF JTS

An online discussion with Talia Carner

Tuesday, January 12, 7:30 p.m. ET

Join us for an online discussion with author and humanitarian activist Talia Carner about her pioneering new work, The Third Daughter. Inspired by Sholem Alecheim’s The Man from Buenos Aires, the book breaches the silence on Zwi Migdal, the legal Jewish sex-trafficking union that operated with impunity for 70 years, from the late 1880s until World War II. Luring an estimated 150,000 girls from the villages of Eastern Europe to South America with false promises of jobs and marriages, it then forced them into prostitution.

New York Times bestselling author Pam Jenoff says: “Thoroughly researched and vividly rendered, this is an important and unforgettable story of exploitation and empowerment that will leave you both shaken and inspired.”
