Europe: Smart and Green

March 23, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Join the Center on Global Economic Governance and the MPA in Economic Policy Management for our next lecture in the series: “The World Economy: Views of Chief Economists,” presenting world renowned economists from the private and public sector to discuss current global economic challenges and their perspectives of the future.

Lecture: Europe: Smart and Green

With:

Debora Revoltella, Chief Economist and Director of the Economics Department, European Investment Bank (EIB)

Moderated by Jan Svejnar, James T. Shotwell Professor of Global Political Economy; Director of the Center on Global Economic Governance, Columbia SIPA

The recovery from the coronavirus pandemic provides a unique opportunity for transformation – a chance to accelerate digitalisation and the climate transition. There is a serious risk, however: that the uncertainties and financial strains created by the pandemic could hold back investment by much of the corporate sector, squandering Europe’s global lead in smart-green technology and critically delaying the changes required. Summarising the results of this year’s EIB Investment Report, Debora Revoltella will analyse the impact of the pandemic for investment, the state of investment and investment finance for climate change mitigation and the adoption of digital technologies, and the European policy response that is needed.
