Historical Lessons and Future Directions for COVID-19

February 17, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted essentially every aspect of our lives this past year and generated a great deal of debate in the United States. The Barnard SCPP program is delighted to welcome Professor Wafaa El-Sadr and Harriet Washington to discuss the public health and social imperatives of the pandemic. How have pandemics, in the past and present, affected disenfranchised groups? What public health considerations should we make to address COVID-19 and to ensure that it is done in an equitable and ethical way? Professor El-Sadr will address public health considerations when trying to control or mitigate a pandemic and Harriet Washington will consider the social impact of the current pandemic within a historic context. Please join us for their presentations followed by a discussion with questions from the audience.
