Advances in medical research have opened a new world of options and bioethical questions. What guidance does the Jewish tradition offer for dealing with the new frontiers of modern medicine? This course will explore the ways in which classical Jewish texts inform Jewish attitudes toward issues at the beginning and end of life, such as pre-implantation genetic testing, abortion, and how we define death. We will discuss the role of religion and religiously informed principles in a pluralistic and largely secular society.
