Saturday Science – Haunted Home Edition
October 31, 2020, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 3:00 pm on Saturday, repeating until November 21, 2020
Join us this Halloween weekend and throughout November for Saturday Science Haunted Home Edition!
Holidays look different this year, but this is no trick. Saturday Science is back, and we’re treating the students in your life to hands-on science kits for all ages. Stop by to grab a bag of your own in a safe, socially-distant way. Come in a Halloween costume and get your photo taken!
Each kit comes in a reusable drawstring bag and contains three engaging activities, just like the kind you’d find at in-person Saturday Science—plus a face mask, hand sanitizer, and other goodies!
You must wear a mask and follow social distancing requirements to collect a kit. If you don’t have a mask, we will provide you with one. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Content is geared toward middle school students, but learners of all ages are welcome.
“Small Square” public plaza, 615 129th Street, between Broadway and 12th Avenue, just west of Columbia’s Jerome L. Greene Science Center (the usual home of Saturday Science)
Any time between 1 and 3 pm on Saturday, October 31st. RSVP not required but encouraged!
Easy-to-follow instructions are included in each kit, and you’re also invited to our Saturday Science At Home Zoom Days throughout November! For a short time on Saturday afternoons, students can use the links below to join a virtual call where instructors will run through one activity each week, using the same kit as the students.
Saturday Science At Home Zoom Days:
Saturday, November 7th at 3pm: Build-a-Neuron (Zoom link coming soon!)
Saturday, November 14th at 3pm: Seeing Double (Zoom link coming soon!)
Saturday, November 21st at 3pm: Brain Hats (Zoom link coming soon!)
Can’t make it to our live Zoom events? We will also upload videos to this page that demonstrate just what to do! Check back week by week to find those clips here, and follow along whenever works best for you.
On occasion, we photograph or video Saturday Science for promotional and archival purposes. When registering for or attending the event at Jerome L. Greene Science Center, you give Columbia University in the City of New York the right to use you and your child’s image for said purposes. We will never use your names, age or other identifying factors.

Saturday Science is brought to you by Columbia’s Zuckerman Institute in partnership with BioBus, Columbia University Neuroscience Outreach, Columbia Neuroscience Society and with support from the National Science Foundation‘s NeuroNex Award DBI-1707398 and Apple Bank.
