AN ONLINE MINI-COURSE WITH JTS
November 4, 11, 18, 25, December 2, 9
1:00 – 2:00 p.m. ET
This class is designed for students with one year of college Hebrew, four years of High School Hebrew, Ulpan level bet, or equivalent.
The Talmud often communicates its ideas in fixed expressions (commonly referred to as technical terms), whereby words or phrases take on a more specific meaning than their literal sense. While these meanings are frequently opaque to untrained readers, these terms are used to indicate standard structures of argumentation that can be pivotal to following a passage of the Talmud. In this class, students will gain a working vocabulary of these expressions, with the aim of making better sense of Talmudic passages.
With Rabbi Marcus Mordecai Schwartz, Director, Matthew Eisenfeld and Sara Duker Beit Midrash and Assistant Professor of Talmud and Rabbinics, JTS.
Recordings will be available for those unable to attend live. Registration required.
