The purpose of this presentation is to stimulate reflections on violence, vulnerability, suffering, and social markers of difference, based on ethnographic data from research conducted in favelas of Rio de Janeiro.
Carolina Parreiras is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Anthropology of the University of São Paulo (USP/FAPESP). She is a Collaborating Professor at the Department of Social Anthropology at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and a Collaborating Researcher at Pagu – Center for Gender Studies (Unicamp). Carolina has worked at non-profit organizations for many years and one of her career goals is to deepen the relationship between universities (research) and NGO’s (social work). Her current research has as its theme the narratives around sexual violence and gender violence against teenagers in favelas located in Rio de Janeiro.
Our seminar series is held at Columbia, in the International Affairs Building, 420 West 118th Street, Room 802. We will begin each session at 1:00 pm.
