The Yiddish Language Group and Other Summer Groups at I-House

During the summer months, I-House is home to a wide variety of groups ranging from Brigham Young University to the International Peace Institute. Summer resident students from the Uriel Weinreich Summer Program in Yiddish Language, Literature, and Culture at the YIVO-Bard Institute for East European Jewish History and Culture led an evening of language and games in July for the I-House community.

Founded in 1968, the six-week Weinreich Program serves beginning- to advanced-level Yiddish speakers and enthusiasts, and remains the oldest intensive Yiddish summer program in the world.

I-House residents interested in learning about Yiddish joined summer program residents, enrolled students from outside I-House, and instructors in the dining room to speak together in Yiddish and break bread.

The language table, led by Dr. Sheva Zucker, a Grammar and Advanced Literature teacher and the Executive Director of the League for Yiddish, was transformed into a game night that even beginners could enjoy.

The convivial evening was rounded out with Yiddish song.
