With sadness, Barnard College shares the passing of former Barnard English and Africana Studies faculty member Quandra Prettyman, who taught in the College’s English department for more than 40 years. She passed away this morning in New York City. In 1970, Quandra became the first Black faculty member to receive a full-time appointment at Barnard.
You can read more about Quandra in a 2014 article from Ann Whitney Olin Professor of Africana Studies and English Monica Miller (link in bio). Quandra taught generations of Barnard students and her impact on the college was profound. She will be missed.
