From the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, I send hopes for your continued health and well-being, particularly in the aftermath of Thursday’s acts of violence. For anyone in the Morningside Heights neighborhood or surrounding area who would like a place to grieve the tragic death of Davide Giri and find comfort amongst other community members, the Cathedral will host a service of Compline on Sunday at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome to take part. I’m attaching a flyer here.

Prior to the service, the Cathedral will host the Zip Code Memory Project for a public gathering to acknowledge, mourn, and pay tribute to the losses of COVID-19 in a healing community ritual. The event will begin at 4 pm in front of the Peace Fountain, and end on the Cathedral’s West Front Stairs. All are invited to join in a candlelit acknowledgement of the trauma of the past two years, and to tap into powerful resources of art and community mutual support.

Whether you join us for part or all of Sunday’s community offerings at the Cathedral, we hope they will help bring us together in peace and unity, and provide some healing space for all who have been affected by violence and despair.
