The past two years have challenged us all in ways we could hardly have envisioned only a short time ago. Not only the pandemic, but individual acts of violence have tested the bonds of our connection to one another.
The Cathedral community grieves for the life of Davide Giri, and prays for the quick recovery of the second victim of Thursday’s violence near Morningside Park. For everyone in the neighborhood and surrounding area, the Cathedral will hold a service of Compline on Sunday evening at 7 pm. All are invited to join us for solidarity, meditation, and prayer. Together, we will unite in peace. Visit our website for more info on Sunday’s service: https://www.stjohndivine.org/calendar/40734/a-space-to-grieve-compline-service
Prior to the service, the Cathedral will host the Zip Code Memory Project for a public gathering to acknowledge, mourn, and pay tribute to the losses of COVID-19 in a healing community ritual. The event will begin at 4 pm in front of the Peace Fountain, and end on the Cathedral’s West Front Stairs. All are invited to join in a candlelit acknowledgement of the trauma of the past two years, and to tap into powerful resources of art and community mutual support.
Whether you join us for part or all of Sunday’s community offerings at the Cathedral, we hope they will help bring us together in peace and unity, and provide some healing space for all who have been affected by violence and despair.
