Columbia University Honors the Legacy of Audre Lorde

As part of its 15th anniversary, Multicultural Affairs, Columbia University Undergraduate Student Life renamed its Lerner Hall space in honor of Audre Lorde (LS’60). A celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on February 18, 2020, the 86th anniversary of her birth in Harlem in 1934. Students, faculty and Lorde’s family and friends attended the event to honor the work and spirit of this “black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet,” who was an inspiration to so many in our community. “She cared,” said a student, and now we will always remember her.
