Last week, the African American & African Diaspora Studies Department and the Department of Anthropology announced the untimely passing of Dr. Steven Gregory, the inaugural Dr. Kenneth and Kareitha Forde Professor of African American and African Diaspora Studies. His extraordinary work in Anthropology centered on the intersection of race, class, gender, and urban-based social movements and included several notable books like Black Corona: Race and the Politics of Place in an Urban Community and SanterĂa in New York City: A Study in Cultural Resistance. He will be dearly missed by his colleagues and the many people whose lives he touched as a loved one and an academic.
