On October 5, Columbia’s Community DentCare Network visited the Jackie Robinson Senior Citizen Community Center to offer to care to residents of Grant Houses. It was the group’s second community visit this fall, as they visited the Manhattanville Community Center on September 28.
At the both locations, teams of dental students led by Julia Tepper, DDS, Lead Faculty for Community Programs, and Daniel Lopez, RDH, Community Dental Health Coordinator, provided blood pressure screenings, performed oral exams to check for oral cancer and other diseases, gave referrals, offered oral hygiene instruction, and distributed goody bags.
The Community DentCare Network, run by Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (@columbiacdm), partners with community organizations to provide dental services and health screenings to underserved populations in New York City, with particular focus on Northern Manhattan and the South Bronx.
