Director of Stewardship. Please help me welcome Christian Peele to our staff. Christian comes to The Riverside Church from the staff of the Obama White House, where she has served in various capacities, most recently Deputy Director for White House Operations. As Deputy Director, Christian managed a large staff, reviewed budgetary matters for The White House, worked to build alliances, created buy-in, and presented a shared and compelling story about strategy, mission, and vision. The daughter of a Baptist minister, Christian grew up in North Carolina and, after finishing college at Mary Baldwin College, went on to earn her Master of Divinity at Duke Divinity School. Christian brings a fresh and out-of-the-box approach to guiding the stewardship and development function of The Riverside Church. Christian begins her work on the staff March 16, 2015.
Minister of Worship and the Arts. April Stace Vega will join The Riverside Church senior staff at the beginning of May in a newly created role, Minister of Worship and the Arts. In this function April will help us assess and align all of our worship offerings, supervise worship administrative functions, and help us engage and expand the use of all artistic expression in the life of our community. April holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Culture from The Catholic University of America; she currently teaches on the faculty of Marymount University in Arlington, VA. April is also a trained musician whose most recent engagement in parish life has been through her work of liturgical consultation with the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. April finds deep joy in helping communities design worship and liturgy that create opportunities for the meaningful engagement of people from many different backgrounds and life experiences. With the added background of seminary training (M.T.S., Leland Seminary, 2006), April brings a theological and ecclesiological perspective to the work of worship. April will move to the city with her husband, Nucleo Vega (“Nuc”), a music teacher and professional jazz drummer, and their 7-year-old, Luke. April and Nuc perform together regularly with their band, Harp 46. Please join me in welcoming April and her whole family to The Riverside Church.
