Required Reading for Upper Division Students

Memories of Sakura Park Global Festival

All children entering grades 4-8 next fall are required to read five books (at a minimum!) and to be prepared to demonstrate comprehension through a project to be assigned in the fall. These books will count towards the minimum required. The reading list is included in this newsletter. We expect your child to read more than five books this summer, but at least five should come from this list. These books are also available at New York Public Library.
Below is a list of the required books by grade. If your child has already read the book or books, he or she can take advantage of the pleasures of rereading.
Entering grade 4: Phoebe the Spy by Judith Barry Griffin and Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White
Entering grade 5: Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos by R.L. LaFevers
Entering grade 6: Crispin by Avi and Liar and Spy by Rebecca Stead
Entering grade 7: Sophia’s War by Avi and Animal Farm by George Orwell
Entering grade 8: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
