“Being Filipino-American is a critical reference point for how I take up space and solidify my place in the world,” says Christian Tanja (@xtian1015, M.A. ’16, International Education Development), who joins us for our celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. “Through early life experiences as a first-generation college student raised by Filipino immigrants to navigating my brownness while working in the non-profit philanthropy & education sector, I have learned to value what makes me different. The beautiful intersection of my identities empowers me, and I know that self-worth is so much more than what is seen. As a recruiter, it brings me great joy to help others see their potential to lead in roles with confidence and humility. Teachers College helped me see my light from within, and I am grateful for my AAPI heritage that helped me get there.” #AsianPacificIslanderHeritageMonth #TCAlumni #AAPIHM
