The value of student-teacher matching: Implications for reauthorization of the Higher Education Act

How can lawmakers increase diversity among educators? In a new report from The Brookings Institution, Travis Bristol (Ph.D. ’14) offers recommendations for the Higher Education Act, focusing on the “added value” of Latinx & black teachers for students of color. Due to the evidence of the added value of Latino and Black teachers for Latino and Black students, Travis Bristol provides four policy recommendations for the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act with the goal of increasing the representation of Black and Latino teachers in the profession.
