Today, and every day, we celebrate women blazing trails, like the late TC alumna Shirley Chisholm (MA ’52), whose legend and legacy only continue to grow sixteen years after her death, and who famously declared herself “unbought and unbossed.” Best known as the nation’s first Black Congresswoman and the first to seek a major party’s presidential nomination, Chisholm pursued meaningful change in education, health care and many other areas. “I do not intend to offer you the tired clichés that have too long been an accepted part of our political life,” she promised in announcing her presidential bid in 1972. “I am the candidate of the people of America.” #WomensHistoryMonth #TCAlumni
