“Today, it’s nice that the world is becoming more aware of the layers of heritage and how it isn’t just a perception of what is on a census form,” explains Saba Ebrahim (M.A. ’07, Teaching of English), who joins our recognition of Asian and Pacific Heritage Month. “When growing up, I was familiar with my heritage because of my parents’ immigration from Pakistan, but at the time, when I called myself Asian or marked it on a form, I was told: ‘but you’re not Chinese.’ I’m proud to be a first-generation Pakistani American, who was able to attend TC because of the sacrifices my parents made in order for me to have a quality education and give back to the world. My heritage doesn’t limit me.” #TCAlumni #AAPIHM
