On View at The Galleries of The Interchurch Center November 10 – December 31, 2021
This Urban Green World features artists from the five boroughs of NYC. Living and working in NYC and it’s immediate area, it can be easy to forget that we are all connected to the natural world. The four artists showing in This Urban Green World all create work that is concerned with nature, ecology, global warming, over-consumption and sustainability. Jessica Dalrymple’s series includes paintings from parks in all five boroughs of NYC, as a reminder that slowing down and experiencing nature can be a sanctuary right here in the city. Miska Draskoczy photographs the landscape around the Gowanus Canal and Brooklyn, showing the natural world breaking through urban settings in surprising ways. Eileen Ferara brings attention to our local waterways, including invasive species often using repurposed, found and other materials, showing rythm and flow in nature. Katrina Slavik brings the landscape to life often including animals, using found materials and imaginative environments that often become sculptural. This show invites the viewer to raise their awareness of our urban green world with the realization that we are also a part of the natural world at large.
