Bank Street math faculty launch Math for All: Video Case-based Professional Development Kits for Teacher Development
On Monday, April 22, Bank Street College of Education and Corwin Press launched Math for All at an event celebrating the product at the College. Math for All helps teachers implement standards-based math lessons that meet the varied needs of today’s diverse student body.
At the event, Virginia Roach, Dean of the Graduate School, lauded the program as a major contribution from Bank Street’s faculty. Barbara Dubitsky, Marvin Cohen, Hal Melnick, and Linda Metnetsky teach in Bank Street’s Math Leadership program, and co-authored Math for All.
The program enhances the preparation of general and special education teachers to promote math success for each learner, including students with disabilities.
Developed by Bank Street and the Education Development Center (EDC), the first release of the program included all the materials needed to offer effective professional development for teachers in grades 3 to 5. Now the publisher, Corwin Press, has issued an additional package of materials and resources for teachers in Kindergarten to 2nd grade classrooms.
Math for All includes a facilitator’s guide with companion DVDs and a corresponding book with materials and handouts, showing both general and special education teachers ways to collaborate to provide a high-quality, standards-based mathematics education. Schools and districts can use the program to increase the expertise of their teachers and enable them to offer workshops for colleagues, eliminating the need to hire outside consultants for the job.
