Dear Past and Potential Participants,
We are excited and energized by the possibilities for this year’s Family Days. Family Days is part of the NYC Department of Transportation’s Weekend Walks program. Booths and activities are generously provided by local community organizations. Family Days is a wonderful opportunity for these organizations to meet people in the community and get their program information out. We have found that organizations do very well at our event when they provide an activity for kids and families to participate in. We would love to have your group participate in Family Days!
This year’s events will take place on two Sundays: Sept 8 and Sept 15. We’ve hosted Family Days for the past three years in the spring and this year, we are hosting in the fall. In addition, we will expand to include local organizations from outside the traditional BID borders of Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues to include the larger historic Bloomingdale area. This runs roughly from Central Park to Riverside Park between 96th St and 110th St.
On these two Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Amsterdam Avenue will be closed to traffic between 106th and 110th Streets. Cafe-style seating will be available on the avenue and dozens of local restaurants will expand onto sidewalks.
All activities are free and in the past have included:
• Live Music • Face Painting • Arts and Crafts • Sidewalk Chalk Art • Box Mazes • Yoga • E-Waste Recycling •Textile and Clothing Recycling •Composting • Karate Lessons
• Exercise • Dance Sessions • Bike-Riding Lessons • Domino Games • Bead Making • Domesticated Pigeons • Plant Care Booth • Pottery-Making Demos • Musical Composition
• Therapeutic Drumming Circle • Representatives from DOT, Greenmarkets and the Parks Department
Please let us know if you can commit to being there Sunday September 8th and/or September 15th —and let us know what activity you can offer! We will follow up with you but if there is someone in your organization we should contact specifically, please forward this information to them and send us their contact details. (Also feel free to forward this email to other organizations in the area that might want to participate). If you have questions about activities, please call or e-mail right away!
